PBIC Self-Paced plus 1:1 mentoring

Join me on PBIC Self-Paced and participate with the community as we go through this exciting 8-week journey together.

As soon as purchase is completed the 8-week course will begin - everything you need to get started will be in your welcome email.

This option gives you two 1:1 mentoring sessions with Nina relating to this course. As soon as you take this option I will be in touch with you via email so that we can find a time for our first session!

By the end of this course, you’ll have the tools and resources to expand ideas, design characters, develop storyboards with the confidence and skillset to work as a children’s picture book illustrator.

Week 1 you will write your illustration plan and join the online community. You will learn the physical mechanics of a picture book from layout, format and the things that you need to consider before starting work on your story.

Week 2 explores character, considering age, size and proportion, groups, experimenting with animal, anthropomorphic and human possibilities and learning how to keep out of the uncanny-valley.

Week 3 is designing character maps using wire-frame techniques.

Week 4 is all about thumbnails, and how the story arc, page-breaks affect the pace, rhythm and flow of your story.

Week 5 you will work in a larger storyboard format, considering page layout and proportions, text and image placement and adding detail to character and setting.

Week 6 you will learn how to make a dummy book.

Week 7 you will learn how to set up master guides for your final illustration, and explore illustration techniques using sample sheets.

Week 8 is all about ‘What next?’, getting your work out there, your portfolio, gathering support, submitting work, self publishing and money.

What People Are Saying:

The course gave me the confidence to illustrate a picture book. I know I can go through the workbook to remind myself of the techniques and process. I have learnt an incredible amount in such a short space of time and feel I have reached a major turning point in my illustration work.
